Questions, answered
How is SIP return calculated?
For a fixed monthly instalment P, a monthly rate i (annual return ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n months, the estimated value is P × ((1 + i)^n − 1) ÷ i × (1 + i). This assumes each instalment is invested at the start of the month and the return stays the same every year.
Is the SIP return guaranteed?
No. Equity mutual fund returns vary from year to year and can be negative over short periods. Use the calculator to compare scenarios (for example 8%, 10% and 12%), not as a promise of what you will earn.
SIP or fixed deposit: which is better?
They do different jobs. A fixed deposit gives a known return and suits money you need within a few years. An equity SIP can grow faster over seven years or more but carries market risk. Many investors use both, matched to when they will need the money.
