How to Check IPO Allotment Status: Registrar, BSE, NSE and Your Broker App

Applied for an IPO? Allotment is usually decided the working day after the issue closes. Here is where to check it, what the result means, and what happens to your money if you get nothing.

Most investors now apply for IPOs, and check allotment, on their phones.

You have applied for an IPO, the money is blocked in your bank account, and now you wait. With SEBI's faster timelines, the wait is short: you will usually know whether you got shares one working day after the issue closes. Here is exactly where to look.

Quick answer

  • When: allotment is usually finalised on T+1, one working day after the issue closes (T).
  • Where: the registrar's website, the BSE or NSE status pages, or your broker's app.
  • What you need: your PAN, application number, or demat account (DP/client) ID.
  • No allotment? The blocked amount is released, usually by T+2.
  • Got shares? They reach your demat account on T+2 and you can sell from listing day, T+3.

The T+3 timeline

Since December 1, 2023, every mainboard IPO has followed SEBI's T+3 schedule:

  • T (closing day): bidding ends.
  • T+1: the basis of allotment is finalised with the stock exchange.
  • T+2: shares are credited to demat accounts, and money is unblocked for applicants who got nothing.
  • T+3: the shares list and start trading.

Weekends and exchange holidays do not count as working days, so a Friday close usually means a Tuesday or Wednesday listing.

Method 1: the registrar's website

Every IPO has a registrar, the company that processes the applications and runs the allotment. Its name is in the RHP and on the IPO page of your broker. Well-known registrars include KFin Technologies, MUFG Intime India (formerly Link Intime), Bigshare Services and Skyline Financial Services.

  1. Open the registrar's IPO allotment status page.
  2. Select the company from the drop-down list. It appears only once allotment is final.
  3. Choose PAN, application number or DP/client ID.
  4. Enter the details and the captcha, then submit.

The page shows the number of shares applied for and allotted.

Method 2: BSE

  1. Go to the BSE "Status of issue application" page.
  2. Select Equity as the issue type.
  3. Pick the issue name from the list.
  4. Enter your application number or PAN, complete the check and search.

Method 3: NSE

  1. Open NSE's "Verify IPO bids" page.
  2. Log in or register with your PAN.
  3. Select the IPO and view your bid and allotment status.

Method 4: your broker or UPI app

Most brokers show the status on the IPO section of their app once the registrar's file is in. Your UPI app also tells you indirectly: if the mandate is released, you got nothing; if it is debited, you got shares.

A released UPI mandate usually means no shares were allotted.

Why didn't I get shares?

In a popular IPO, the retail portion is often oversubscribed many times. SEBI's rules then require allotment by lottery: as many retail applicants as possible receive one minimum lot, chosen at random by computer. Applying for more lots, or at a higher price within the band, does not improve your odds in the retail category. Each PAN is one ticket, so multiple applications on the same PAN are rejected.

Other common reasons for rejection:

  • The UPI mandate was not approved before the deadline.
  • The PAN or demat details did not match.
  • There was not enough balance in the bank account when the mandate was approved.

What happens to my money?

With ASBA (Application Supported by Blocked Amount), your money never leaves your account until allotment. It is only blocked. If you get no shares, the block is lifted, usually by T+2. If you get some shares, only that amount is debited and the rest is released. If the release is delayed, contact your bank first, then the registrar.

After you get shares

Your shares appear in your demat account on T+2. On listing day, trading opens after a special pre-open session that discovers the opening price. Decide in advance whether you are holding for the long term or selling on listing, and do not base that choice on the grey market premium.

Coming up

For the Jio Platforms IPO (October 21 to 23), allotment is expected on October 26 and listing on October 28, according to reports. Our upcoming IPOs page is updated every week.

Common questions

Does the registrar page work before allotment is final? No. The company name usually appears in the drop-down only after the basis of allotment is approved, typically on the evening of T+1.

Can family members apply separately? Yes, each person with their own PAN and demat account can apply once. Applications from the same PAN are rejected.

What if I got shares but they are not in my demat account? Wait until the end of T+2, then contact your broker and the registrar with your application number.
