JEE Main 2027: When Registration Opens, the January Exam Dates, Fees and Documents to Keep Ready
The NTA has not yet opened applications, but its calendar lists Session 1 between January 22 and 30, 2027. Here is a checklist so you are ready the day the form goes live.

For lakhs of Class 12 students, the countdown to JEE Main 2027 has begun. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has not yet opened registrations, but reports point to the application form going live around the end of October 2026. Its calendar already lists Session 1 of the exam in late January 2027.
Here is what we know, and a checklist so that you are ready the moment the form opens.
Quick answer
- Registration: expected around the last week of October 2026 on jeemain.nta.nic.in. Last year it opened on October 31.
- Session 1 exam: listed for January 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30, 2027, according to Careers360, citing the NTA's tentative calendar.
- Session 2: reports expect registration in February and the exam in April 2027.
- Format: computer-based, three hours, 300 marks, with +4 for a correct answer and -1 for a wrong one.
- Nothing is final until the official information bulletin is published.
Important dates at a glance
These are expected or tentative dates, based on reports and the NTA's calendar:
- Session 1 registration: late October to November 2026
- Session 1 exam: January 22 to 30, 2027, in two shifts a day (9 am to 12 noon, and 2 pm to 5 pm)
- Session 1 result: usually in February
- Session 2 registration: February 2027
- Session 2 exam: April 2027

Who can apply
Students who have passed Class 12 or are appearing in 2027 can apply. Two other points are worth knowing:
- Two papers: Paper 1 is for BE and BTech courses. Paper 2 is for BArch and BPlanning, and includes a drawing test for BArch.
- Admission rules are separate from the exam. For admission to NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded institutes, candidates usually need 75% marks in Class 12 (65% for SC and ST candidates), or to be in the top 20 percentile of their board. JEE Main also decides who qualifies for JEE Advanced, the exam for the IITs. Check the 2027 bulletin for the exact rules.
Fees (based on last year)
The NTA charged these application fees for one session in the last cycle, according to Careers360. They may change this year.
- General (male): ₹1,000
- General-EWS and OBC-NCL (male): ₹900
- Female candidates (all categories): ₹800
- SC, ST, PwD and transgender candidates: ₹500
Documents to keep ready now
Don't wait for the form to open. Gather these today:
- Aadhaar card, with your name and date of birth exactly as on your Class 10 certificate.
- A mobile number and email ID that you will keep for the whole year. All NTA updates go there.
- Class 10 marksheet or certificate.
- Class 12 marksheet, or your admit card if you are appearing in 2027.
- Category certificate (EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST or PwD), valid for the current year if needed.
- A recent passport-size photograph and signature, scanned in the sizes the NTA asks for. Last year, the photo had to be 10 to 200 KB and the signature 10 to 100 KB.
- A way to pay online: UPI, net banking or a card.

Step by step: filling the form
- Visit jeemain.nta.nic.in, the only official site.
- Register with your basic details and get your application number.
- Log in and fill in personal and academic details.
- Choose your papers and up to four exam cities in order of preference. Centres are allotted based on availability.
- Upload the photo, signature and documents.
- Pay the fee and download the confirmation page. Keep several copies.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Name mismatches between Aadhaar, Class 10 records and the form. These can cause trouble at admission time.
- Using a parent's phone number that may change, or an email you rarely check.
- Blurred photos or photos with caps or dark glasses.
- Waiting for the last day, when the website is often slow.
- Paying through unofficial links. Fake websites appear every year. Use only nta.ac.in and jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Preparation tips for the next 100 days
- Revise Class 11 topics alongside Class 12; both carry heavy weight.
- Take one full mock test every week on a computer, and analyse every mistake.
- Avoid negative marking traps: with -1 for a wrong answer, guessing blindly can cost you.
- Look after sleep and health. Read our guide to better sleep habits and screen breaks for your eyes.
