After 22 years, the most famous couch in Indian entertainment is getting its final season. Koffee With Karan, Karan Johar's celebrity chat show, returns for Season 9, which Johar has announced will be the last. The first guest is Salman Khan, and the season premieres on JioHotstar on October 14, 2026, at 7 pm, according to India TV.
Here is when and where to watch, what the first promo teased, and why the show mattered.
Quick answer

- The numbers: the show has run for 22 years, 8 seasons and 161 episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter India.
Why it is ending
Karan Johar announced on September 30 that Season 9 would be the last. In an emotional video, he recalled discussing the idea of the show with his father, the late producer Yash Johar, and wrote that the show had given him friendships, memories and its share of controversy. "There are some journeys you don't plan to end," he wrote.

What the Salman Khan promo teased
In the first promo, Salman Khan had fun with the "final season" label. He joked that Karan convinces celebrities to come on the show by telling them each season will be the last, and teased that he might start his own spin-off, "Koffee With Salman", once the original ends. The promo closed with a playful nod to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, the 1998 film that launched Karan Johar as a director, in which Salman had a special role.
Salman's most recent film was the action thriller 7 Dogs. His upcoming projects include Maatrubhumi, directed by Apoorva Lakhia and expected around Diwali or Christmas 2026, and an untitled film with director Vamshi Paidipally opposite Nayanthara, according to The Hollywood Reporter India.
How Koffee With Karan changed celebrity culture
The show began in 2004. At the time, Indian film stars rarely spoke candidly on television. Koffee With Karan created a new kind of space: pairs of stars on a couch, gossip, teasing and games, with the host as a friend and insider rather than a neutral interviewer.
A few ingredients became famous:
- The rapid-fire round, where guests answer quick personal questions to win a hamper.
- The Koffee hamper, a prize that stars openly competed for.
- Pairings: co-stars, siblings, rivals and real-life couples on the same couch, often leading to headlines the next morning.

The controversies
The show's candour also brought trouble. Its most serious controversy came in 2019, when remarks by cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul on the show drew widespread criticism, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India suspended them pending an inquiry. The episode was taken down. Over the years, the show has also faced criticism for being gossip-driven and focused on a small circle of film families, a debate Karan Johar himself has acknowledged.
Karan Johar, the director behind the host
Before he became Bollywood's best-known talk-show host, Karan Johar was a hit director. His debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), was followed by Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), My Name Is Khan (2010) and, most recently, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023). As head of Dharma Productions, he has also produced dozens of films and launched many young actors. That insider position is what made the show work: guests treated the couch as a conversation among friends, which is why it so often produced headlines.
From TV to streaming
Koffee With Karan started on television and later moved to streaming, reflecting a wider shift in how Indians watch entertainment. Its final season streaming on JioHotstar shows how talk shows, like films and series, now live mainly online.

What to expect this season
JioHotstar and Karan Johar have not announced the full guest list. Expect a mix of big film stars, new names and possibly some nostalgia, given that it is the final season. With Salman Khan opening the show, the tone looks set to be light and playful.
