Simple Energy Raises ₹1,750 Crore to Fix Deliveries and Scale Up
The Bengaluru electric scooter maker's all-equity Series C, led by the Velumani family office, is its largest round yet and takes total funding past ₹2,530 crore.

Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler maker Simple Energy has raised ₹1,750 crore — roughly $180 million — in a Series C round, the company's largest fundraise to date. The round, announced on September 30, was entirely equity and takes Simple Energy's total funding to more than ₹2,530 crore, according to Autocar Professional.
Who invested
The round was led by the family office of Dr Arokiaswamy Velumani, the founder of diagnostics company Thyrocare. Co-founders Suhas Rajkumar and Ankit Gupta also put money in, alongside high-net-worth investor Amit Mishra and the Haran Family Office. The company did not disclose its valuation or how much each investor contributed.
The investor mix is notable. In a funding market where large rounds are often led by global venture funds, Simple Energy's biggest raise has come largely from Indian family offices and its own founders.
Where the money goes
Simple Energy says the capital is earmarked for a new factory, higher production, hiring, an expanded sales and service network, and research and development for its next product cycle, according to Entrepreneur India.
YourStory reported that the funds will also help the company fix its working capital cycle — a problem linked to delays in delivering scooters to customers who had already booked them. For an EV maker, clearing a backlog is about more than revenue: delivery delays damage trust in a market where buyers are still weighing electric scooters against familiar petrol models.
The company has reported production capacity of 10,000 units a month and a retail presence of more than 80 outlets across over 60 cities.
A strong week for start-up funding
Simple Energy's round helped make the first week of October a busy one for Indian start-ups. YourStory's weekly tally put funding at about $418 million across 22 deals, up from $382 million the previous week, with Simple Energy and the US-based physical AI chip company SiMa.ai accounting for the largest cheques.
The road ahead
India's electric two-wheeler market has become crowded, with established motorcycle makers competing against well-funded start-ups for the same buyers. Simple Energy's new capital gives it room to build capacity and widen its reach. Its next test is simpler to state and harder to pass: getting scooters to customers on time, at scale.
