The initial public offering of Jio Platforms, the digital and telecom arm of Reliance Industries, could become the largest IPO in Indian history. But much of what is circulating about it, from dates to the price band, is still based on reports rather than official documents. Here is a guide to what is confirmed and what is not.

What is confirmed

  • Draft papers: Jio Platforms filed its draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) in June 2026.
  • Regulatory approval: SEBI, the market regulator, cleared the draft on August 28, 2026.
  • Structure: the IPO is to be a fresh issue only, with no offer for sale (OFS). That means the money goes to the company, and existing shareholders, including Reliance, are not selling shares in the IPO. The draft provides for up to 270 million new shares with a face value of ₹10 each.
  • Use of money: reports of the draft say a large part of the proceeds is meant to repay or prepay borrowings.

What is only reported

These figures appear in multiple media reports but had not been officially announced as of October 12:

  • Dates: the issue is widely reported to open around October 21 and close around October 23, with listing around October 28. Some earlier reports pointed to November.
  • Size: the most common estimate is about ₹37,700 crore (around $3.8 billion), which would exceed Hyundai Motor India's ₹27,859 crore IPO of 2024, currently the largest. Some estimates are higher.
  • Price band: reports differ widely, with ranges from about ₹1,065–1,119 to ₹1,350–1,450 per share quoted by different outlets.

The final price band, dates and size will be set out in the red herring prospectus (RHP), which companies file shortly before an issue opens.

What investors should watch

  1. Read the RHP, not social media posts. It sets out the business, risks, finances and how the money will be used.
  2. Valuation: compare the implied valuation with listed telecom and digital companies, and with how the market values Reliance itself.
  3. Debt and use of proceeds: a fresh issue used largely to repay debt improves the balance sheet, but does not by itself fund new growth.
  4. Allocation: in very large, popular IPOs, retail investors often receive few or no shares. Don't borrow to apply.
  5. Listing-day expectations: a large issue size can limit the "listing pop" seen in smaller IPOs.
