India vs West Indies T20Is: India Lead 2-1 After a Run-Fest. What's at Stake in Hyderabad and the Bengaluru Finale
Shreyas Iyer's young side has scored 220-plus twice in three games, and West Indies chased 250 in Ranchi. The story of the series so far, the players to watch and the last two matches.

India's new-look T20 side is having a very entertaining October. Under captain Shreyas Iyer, India lead West Indies 2-1 in the five-match T20I series, in a contest packed with huge totals, a record chase and nervy finishes.
The fourth match is in Hyderabad on October 14, and the series ends at Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium on October 17. Here is the story so far, and what to watch.
Quick answer
- Series score: India lead 2-1 with two to play.
- Remaining matches: 4th T20I, Hyderabad, October 14; 5th T20I, Bengaluru, October 17. Both start at 7 pm.
- Captains: Shreyas Iyer (India) and Shai Hope (West Indies).
- Stars so far: Shai Hope's unbeaten century in Ranchi; Abhishek Sharma's 30-ball 69 and Arshdeep Singh's 3 for 44 in Indore.
- Earlier: India won the ODI series 2-1, with Shubman Gill named player of the series.
Match by match
1st T20I, Lucknow (October 6): India won by 8 wickets. West Indies were bowled out for 171, and India cruised home at 172 for 2 with plenty of overs to spare.
2nd T20I, Ranchi (October 9): West Indies won by 6 wickets. This was the match of the series. India piled up 249 for 5, their highest T20I total against West Indies, with Sanju Samson making 82, and Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan and Iyer all chipping in. West Indies still chased it down, reaching 252 for 4. Captain Shai Hope carried the chase with an unbeaten century, in what reports called West Indies' highest successful T20I chase. Off-spinner Roston Chase, with 3 for 24, was the only bowler to escape punishment.
3rd T20I, Indore (October 11): India won by 14 runs. Opener Abhishek Sharma smashed 69 off 30 balls and added 108 for the second wicket with Ishan Kishan (37 off 18). India were cruising at 115 for 1 before a collapse left them all out for 223. West Indies fought hard, but Arshdeep Singh removed Hope early and came back to dismiss Sherfane Rutherford and Keemo Paul, finishing with 3 for 44 and the Player of the Match award. West Indies ended on 209 for 7.

What we've learned
1. 220 is the new par. Three of the six innings have crossed 220, and Ranchi produced more than 500 runs. Bowlers on both sides have struggled on flat pitches with short boundaries.
2. India's top order is explosive. Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan have given India fast starts. The worry is the middle order, which collapsed in Indore.
3. Arshdeep is the go-to bowler. In a high-scoring series, his ability to bowl yorkers at the death has made the difference.
4. West Indies are dangerous. With hitters like Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford and Romario Shepherd, no total is safe.

Players to watch
India:
- Abhishek Sharma: the most destructive opener in the side.
- Sanju Samson: in fine form after his 82 in Ranchi.
- Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: the teenage batter in the squad; any appearance draws huge interest.
- Kuldeep Yadav: India's best spinner, key on slower surfaces.
- Arshdeep Singh: the death-overs specialist.
West Indies:
- Shai Hope: captain, keeper and the series' leading batter.
- Roston Chase: the bowler who controlled India's batting in Ranchi.
- Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell: big finishers.
The venues
- Hyderabad (Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium): usually good for batting, with some help for spinners as the game goes on. Dew can make chasing easier at night.
- Bengaluru (M. Chinnaswamy Stadium): famously small boundaries and a fast outfield; expect another run-fest, and keep an eye on the weather, as October showers are common.

How the ODI series went
Before the T20Is, India won the three-match ODI series 2-1. They chased 300 in Thiruvananthapuram and a huge 406 in Guwahati, both by eight wickets, before West Indies hit back in Mullanpur by chasing 352. Shubman Gill, who captained the ODI side, scored 334 runs and was named player of the series, while Kuldeep Yadav took seven wickets. Shai Hope, with 278 runs, was the visitors' best batter.
What's at stake
If India win in Hyderabad, they seal the series 3-1 with a game to spare. If West Indies win, it all comes down to a decider in Bengaluru on Saturday.
Either way, the series is valuable preparation. India head straight to New Zealand for a five-match T20I series starting October 22, followed by ODIs and Tests. Read our guide to India's New Zealand tour.
