India's wedding season restarts on November 21, 2026.

India's wedding season reopens on Saturday, November 21, 2026, the day after Devuthani Ekadashi, and runs in bursts until late April 2027. For brides, grooms and the guests who will attend several weddings in a few weeks, the question now is what to wear.

Search data gives a good guide. WeddingWire India, working with Pinterest, compared what Indian couples searched for in early 2025 with early 2024. The shifts are clear: softer colours, structured blouses, quiet luxury and a return of vintage gold. Here is what that means in practice. If you still need a date, see our full list of wedding muhurat dates for 2026-27.

Quick answer

  • Colours: soft pink, dusty rose, lilac and purple are rising fast; red remains the classic.
  • Blouses: corset blouses for lehengas are up 83% in searches.
  • Style mood: "old money" quiet luxury, with velvet, silk, brocade and pearls instead of heavy logos.
  • Grooms: champagne sherwanis, powder pink bandhgalas and coordinated (not matching) colours.
  • Jewellery: vintage gold rings up 229%; polki and kundan remain favourites.

Bridal trends for 2026

WeddingWire India, working with Pinterest, tracked what Indian couples are searching for. Comparing early 2025 with early 2024, it found some clear shifts.

1. Soft pastels are rising. Red will always be the classic bridal colour, but softer shades are growing fast. Searches for soft pink wedding themes rose 473%, and dusty rose sarees rose 114%. Lavender, lilac and powder blue also feature, especially for day functions.

2. The corset blouse is back. Searches for corset blouses rose 50%, and corset blouses for lehengas rose 83%. Designers are pairing these structured blouses with traditional zari and mirror work.

3. "Old money" quiet luxury. Searches for "old money" outfits rose 123%. Think timeless tailoring, pearls, velvet, silk and brocade, instead of heavy logos or loud embellishment.

4. Goddess-style gold. Golden bridal outfits rose 90%, and sheer veils made of tulle, organza or net are a popular accessory.

5. Purple everywhere. Purple was the stand-out colour story: searches for purple wedding themes rose more than 1,400%. Lilac suits daytime events, while plum and amethyst work for evening receptions.

What grooms are wearing

Grooms are moving beyond the traditional cream sherwani. Trend picks include:

  • Powder pink bandhgalas and lavender kurtas for mehendi and haldi functions;
  • Champagne-toned sherwanis with gemstone brooches;
  • Ivory safas (turbans) with subtle detailing;
  • Monotone layering, such as a kurta, jacket and stole in shades of the same colour.

Couples are also coordinating colours rather than matching exactly: for example, a dusty rose lehenga with a champagne or blush sherwani.

Jewellery trends

Vintage-inspired pieces are in demand: searches for vintage gold rings rose 229%. Emerald and other gemstone jewellery is also rising, and polki and kundan sets remain bridal favourites.

Planning your wardrobe for a short season

  • Order early: custom lehengas and sherwanis can take six to ten weeks. If you have not ordered yet, consider ready-to-wear or rental for some functions.
  • Guests, mix and match: if you have three weddings in one week, one heavy lehenga skirt can be styled with different blouses and dupattas.
  • Dress for the hour: many muhurat windows fall late at night, so plan for evening fabrics and colours even for the main ceremony.

Smart shopping for the wedding season

  • Buy the craft, not the label: look for genuine handloom and silk. Our guides explain the Silk Mark and the Handloom Mark.
  • Re-wear and restyle: a bridal lehenga can be worn again with a new blouse; a groom's sherwani jacket can be worn over a plain kurta.
  • Beware of online sale scams: check the seller before paying for "designer" outfits at very low prices. See our guide to festive sale scams.
